hey guys, thought i'd share a recent experience. My winch isnt working too well right now so i took it completly apart to clean it. It was one ugly mess inside. I took me a while to get it cleaned. Some of the gear sets were almost siezed up, but everything is rolling smooth now. Our years of mudding have taken a toll on the winch innards. After seeing this I'll probably look to clean it atleast every other year now atleast. Sadly this didnt fix my problem and I think my motor may be fried.

My died last winter just as I was ready to go and plow a driveway and side walk that I get paid to do... :( Had to do it by hand... The motor burned out from to much use. Now I make sure I don't over work it and let it cool down when I'm plowing. I try and make long straight shots with the plow so I don't over heat it. I pull the wire out every month or so and make sure it's clean and then oil it up. It dosen't take much mud and water to ruin the cable and motor.

Definitely keep an eye on the motor, but the mudded up gears will also make it hard on the motor.
